Getting the Most out of Your Kitchen With Fantastic Tiles

A kitchen remodeling project is a great opportunity to upgrade appliances, countertops, lighting and floors. It is also your great chance to get some fantastic tiles on the backsplash. In the kitchens of just a few years ago, there was not a lot of emphasis on this area. It was often left fairly plain, the main idea being to protect the walls from heat and grease and moisture. This is no longer true for the creative and clever designer.

The simplest way to add energy and interest to the backsplash is with bold color. You will have a choice of many interesting colors that can either match or contrast with the rest of the kitchen. Matching colors present a nice harmonious feel to the area, while contrasting colors can infuse the kitchen with a sense of vitality. Bold red or purple tiles can stand out, while cool greys or muted blues can create a calming effect.

You will have your choice of different textures and materials, too, for the backsplash.  Many of the textures are smooth and glassy, like the popular subway tiles. You can always dress up the cooking area with rougher textures such as travertine or other natural stone. Even the grout between the tiles can be made of different surfaces.

 

You can consider a variety of different configurations for your backsplash tiles. The shape can be traditional, just covering the expected space on the lower walls, or you could extend the tiles far up toward the ceiling. Nor do the tiles have to be limited to a rectangular pattern; they could be flowing in a circular shape to create more impact.
